What is Talented?
Talented is a secret society of experienced makers of digital services. Talented was established in Helsinki, Finland to change how IT recruitment works. What we wanted to do was turn the focus from companies to talents. We stared in Helsinki but we are now operating internationally.
Essentially, we are building a community where we can provide value to our members. Our community is two-sided, there are ~1200 Talents and ~140 partner companies. We are software engineers, designers, devops, product owners, project managers, QA-people and salespeople who are shaping the digital world.
We bring value mainly in three different ways:
- Finding new careers for job-seekers
- Finding new projects for freelancers
- Helping the community grow and develop through organising events
For talented individuals, this service is 100 % free – join here
What is Talented doing in Germany?
Talented has so far focused on matching talents and opportunities in Finland, but we have also worked on several international projects and with international companies. We have several partner companies with offices in Berlin and other parts of Germany, so we are on a quest to make tech recruitment better and challenge old ways of working.
What is the application process for job-seekers?
If you are curious about what opportunities there could be for you or you have already decided that you take the next step in your career, the only thing you need to do is to fill in this short application form
After this, we review your application, and if it looks good, we invite you to a physical or online meeting. The meeting is a one-hour discussion, where we want to get to know you and understand what drives you forward. We want to assess your professional skills as an applicant, but also understand where you started from and where you’d like to go.
We have some technical questions so we can verify your technical skills. If it’s possible, we would also like to see some of your code.
I am a freelancer, can you help me?
Yes, we have a rather big number of freelancers that we help find new projects. The freelancers will go through the same application process as job-seekers.
What is the application process for freelancers?
This is pretty much the same as for Talent’s looking for jobs, so you can look at the answer above and then fill in the application here if you are interested.
How do companies apply for membership?
If you represent a company that is looking for exceptionally talented tech team members, then we’d like to hear from you. We want to make sure that the companies we work with actually provide a great environment for our Talents to work in, so we’d like you to fill in a company application as well. We want to know our partner companies very well, so we can match their recruiting needs as accurate as possible. We don’t want to waste anyone’s time.
How hard is it to get accepted?
The baseline for Talented membership is that you are good at what you do, and you have a track record to prove it. We expect you to have at least 5 years of work experience.
Yay, I got accepted! What happens next?
- We build a profile of you. Think of it as a mini-CV. It has a list of your professional skills, and a few paragraph description based on your job history and the interview we did.
- You become a member of the Talented community. You get access to our members-only Slack and our community events.
- We start matching you with our partner companies. Our partner company representatives have access to our “Talent portal” where all our job-seeking talents are listed. If they find what they like, they can initiate the interview process from there.
- We present you with options, based on what you told us in the interview, and you tell us what you think sounds interesting. After you have indicated your interest the company takes over and does their thing.
What matching process – Please tell me more about how you match me with nice companies?
We have met with you and you have told us what you are looking for. We do also know our partner companies very well, so we build a list of potentially fitting companies, based on your profile and your preferences.
Then we contact each of the chosen companies and see if your profile is something they are looking for. The companies can use our portal to search for the talents they need, but we also pro-actively present them with great options, like you.
If both parties (you and the partner company) are interested, we start scheduling the first interview. After that, the process follows the recruitment process of the company. We will stay in the loop and make sure you are taken care of. If everything goes smoothly you find a new job and the company finds a new employee!
In short, we help our Talents with the recruitment process, smoothen the path and provide guidance along the way.
My current employer is your partner, are they able to see my profile?
No, we can hide it from them.
We are very strict about the privacy of our Talents. Switching jobs is a huge personal transformation, and we understand the sensitiveness of the matter.
We also can put your profile into “Hidden Matching” mode. This means that we completely hide your profile from all of our partner companies. Even though your profile is hidden, we can do our matching process in the background and offer you nice opportunities.
What about remote work?
The possibility of remote work depends on the partner company. Some of our partner companies are 100% remote, some of our partner companies are open to remote work, and for some companies, the remote work is not an option, for a variety of reasons.
Do you organize events?
Yes, that is one of our ways to bring value to our community. We aim to keep our community as top-notch as possible in the fields of software development. We have both members-only and open events. Check out our Events page for more information.
What is the most demanded skillset?
What about other roles in software teams?
In a typical software team, there is a project manager role, a designer, a few QA people, and many software engineers. This is why there is such a high demand for programmers.
Due to the lower demand of roles as designers, QA, product owners and project managers, we keep the bar higher. To get accepted into our community, we expect at least five years of relevant job experience and technical skills with these roles.
